About This Program
Program Description
The Doctor of Divinity is designed for experienced theologians, senior ministers, bishops, denominational leaders, seminary administrators, educators and researchers seeking advanced integrative scholarship in theology and ministry.
The programme brings together the major theological disciplines within a coherent doctoral framework. Students engage biblical theology, Christian doctrine, historical theology, philosophical theology, ethics, practical theology, ecclesiology and public theology while developing advanced research and leadership capabilities.
A defining feature of the programme is its emphasis on integration. Students learn to relate Scripture, doctrine, history, ministry practice, institutional leadership and contemporary social realities rather than treating these areas as isolated fields.
Advanced biblical and theological study develops the ability to interpret Scripture rigorously and construct coherent theological arguments. Students engage classical Christian traditions alongside contemporary and global theological perspectives.
Courses in ecclesiology and ministry examine the identity, mission, governance and public witness of the Church. Students analyse denominational structures, episcopal leadership, theological education, institutional accountability and the responsibilities of senior Christian leaders.
The programme also examines the moral and spiritual dimensions of leadership. Students explore authority, integrity, stewardship, accountability, safeguarding, succession and the responsible exercise of ecclesial influence.
Studies in public theology and contemporary society prepare students to address social, cultural, political and ethical questions with theological depth. Students learn to communicate Christian thought within academic, ecclesial and public settings.
Advanced research training develops competence in theological, qualitative, quantitative, historical, textual and interdisciplinary methods. Students formulate substantial research questions, evaluate complex bodies of literature and construct original scholarly arguments.
Doctoral teaching, curriculum design and research supervision prepare students for senior academic responsibilities in universities, seminaries and theological colleges. Institutional leadership courses develop competence in governance, strategy and organisational development.
The 60-credit doctoral thesis is the central research component of the programme. Each student undertakes a substantial original investigation into an approved topic in divinity, theology, ministry, ecclesial leadership, theological education or Christian institutional practice.
Graduates are prepared for senior academic leadership, seminary administration, episcopal and denominational leadership, theological consultancy, research, teaching and scholarly publication.

Admissions
Entry Requirements
Applicants must hold a relevant master’s degree or recognised equivalent.
Applicants must submit a detailed research proposal identifying the proposed topic, research problem, objectives, methodology and anticipated contribution to knowledge.
Applicants must provide an academic writing sample demonstrating readiness for doctoral level research.
Applicants must provide appropriate academic or professional references.
Relevant ministry, teaching, research or leadership experience may be considered where applicable.
Applicants must attend an interview with a faculty panel.
Applicants may be required to demonstrate access to appropriate research resources or language competence relevant to the proposed field of study.
