Program Description
The Bachelor of Arts in Intercessory Prayer and Deliverance Studies prepares students for informed, responsible and ethically accountable ministry in the areas of prayer, intercession and deliverance. It responds to the need for prayer ministers who combine spiritual maturity with sound biblical interpretation, theological depth, pastoral sensitivity and appropriate ministry boundaries.
Students begin with foundational studies in Christian worldview, biblical studies, doctrine, academic writing, hermeneutics and Christian ministry. These courses establish the intellectual and spiritual framework required for advanced theological study and responsible ministry practice.
The programme then develops students’ understanding of Christian ethics, church history, leadership, worship, pastoral theology and the biblical foundations of prayer. Students examine both the Old and New Testaments and study systematic theology to understand prayer and spiritual ministry within the wider doctrines of God, humanity, Christ, salvation and the Church.
Specialist study addresses the biblical theology of prayer, spiritual warfare, intercessory leadership, corporate prayer, deliverance ministry and the discernment of complex pastoral situations. Students are taught to distinguish theological and spiritual concerns from matters requiring medical, psychological, safeguarding or professional intervention.
The programme does not encourage sensationalism, coercive practices or unaccountable ministry. Instead, it promotes humility, informed consent, confidentiality, safeguarding, pastoral supervision, teamwork and referral to qualified professionals when needs fall beyond the competence of a prayer minister.
Courses in pastoral counselling, Christian counselling, apologetics, mission, evangelism and contemporary society broaden students’ ability to engage compassionately with individuals, churches and communities. Supervised Field Education I and II enable students to apply their knowledge within approved ministry environments under responsible oversight.
Research Methods in Theology prepares students to undertake the 20-credit degree thesis. The thesis allows each student to conduct sustained research into an approved topic related to biblical prayer, intercession, spiritual formation, spiritual warfare, deliverance theology, pastoral care or prayer ministry leadership.
Graduates are prepared for prayer ministry leadership, intercessory coordination, teaching, pastoral support, ministry training and further postgraduate study.
