PhD, Christian Leadership and Discipleship
Advancing Christian Leadership Scholarship, Organisational Excellence and Transformational Discipleship
About This Program
Program Description
The Doctor of Christian Leadership and Discipleship is designed for experienced leaders, educators, researchers and ministry practitioners seeking the highest level of academic and professional formation in Christian leadership and disciple-making.
The programme provides an advanced interdisciplinary framework for examining leadership through biblical, theological, organisational and social perspectives. Students critically evaluate major leadership theories, biblical leadership models, organisational systems, institutional cultures and approaches to human and spiritual formation.
Advanced study in discipleship enables students to investigate how individuals, communities and organisations cultivate Christian maturity, reproduce leadership and sustain mission across generations. Students analyse discipleship models, mentoring systems, spiritual formation practices and leadership-development pathways within diverse cultural and ministry contexts.
The programme explores strategic leadership, organisational change, governance, ethics, succession, innovation and institutional sustainability. Students consider how senior leaders establish vision, shape culture, exercise authority, manage complexity and lead organisations through transition.
Particular emphasis is placed on the relationship between leadership character and institutional health. Students examine integrity, accountability, emotional maturity, spiritual formation, power, influence, conflict, safeguarding and the ethical responsibilities of Christian leaders.
The programme also prepares students to teach and supervise leadership and discipleship at advanced academic levels. Courses in doctoral pedagogy, curriculum design, scholarly publication and research supervision develop the capabilities required for university, seminary and professional education.
Advanced research training develops competence in qualitative, quantitative, mixed-method, theological and interdisciplinary research. Students learn to construct original research problems, engage critically with scholarly literature, apply appropriate methodologies and produce findings that contribute to knowledge and practice.
The 60-credit doctoral thesis represents the central research component of the programme. Each student undertakes an extensive original investigation into an approved issue in Christian leadership, discipleship, spiritual formation, organisational development, governance, ministry education or institutional practice.
Graduates are prepared for senior organisational leadership, executive ministry, leadership consultancy, higher education teaching, research supervision, policy development and scholarly publication.
