About This Program
Program Description
The Master of Arts in Christian Religious Studies and Ministry provides advanced academic and professional preparation for individuals seeking senior responsibility in ministry, religious education, theological teaching and Christian organisational leadership.
The programme brings together religious studies, biblical interpretation, systematic theology, Christian ethics, church history, pastoral ministry, education and contemporary cultural engagement. Students examine the Christian faith within its biblical, historical, doctrinal and social contexts while developing the ability to communicate that faith clearly and responsibly.
Advanced studies in biblical and theological interpretation enable students to engage critically with Christian texts, doctrines and traditions. Students evaluate major theological perspectives, analyse the relationship between Scripture and doctrine and develop informed responses to contemporary religious and ethical questions.
The religious studies component introduces advanced methods for studying religion as a theological, historical, cultural and social phenomenon. Students explore comparative religion, interfaith engagement, religion in public life and the relationship between Christianity and contemporary society.
The ministry component develops competence in pastoral leadership, congregational development, Christian formation, counselling, mission and organisational ministry. Students examine how theological knowledge informs leadership, preaching, teaching, discipleship, pastoral care and community engagement.
Studies in curriculum development and religious education equip students to design, implement and evaluate Christian teaching programmes for churches, schools, theological institutions and ministry training contexts. Students learn to align educational aims, learning outcomes, teaching methods and assessment with the needs of diverse learners.
The programme places strong emphasis on ethical leadership, critical thinking and reflective practice. Students explore the moral responsibilities of religious educators and ministry leaders, including accountability, safeguarding, inclusion, professional boundaries and responsible use of authority.
Advanced research training develops competence in qualitative, quantitative, historical, biblical and theological methods. Students learn to formulate research questions, evaluate scholarly literature, collect and analyse evidence and communicate findings to academic and professional audiences.
The programme culminates in a 30-credit master’s thesis through which students undertake substantial independent research into a defined issue in Christian religious studies, theology, biblical studies, ministry, religious education or a related discipline.
Graduates are prepared for senior ministry, religious education leadership, theological teaching, research, consultancy and doctoral study.
